This past weekend I was in St. George, Utah, attending the Annual Midwinter Meetings of the Utah Funeral Directors Association. Other than the great weather and fun time spent with my family, the highlight of the weekend was centered around airbrush cosmetics. The seminar was presented by Dina Ousley, who is one of Hollywood’s most sought after makeup artists, and founder and owner of Dinair Airbrush Cosmetics. So why would a bunch of funeral directors be meeting with a Hollywood make up artist? The answer is there are practical applications for us in the funeral profession for airbrush cosmetics.
Often times I hear that a deceased person looks like they have makeup caked on or that they look too pasty. By using an airbrush to apply cosmetics it eliminates the caked on look and allows for a more natural coverage. As one applies cosmetics via the airbrush, you are able to do so in layers. It helps cover bruises or blemishes and is especially useful in simply highlighing the features on the face. At Memorial, we currently have two airbrush systems and are continuing our training in developing this skill. In doing so, it will allow us to restore the natural colors of a family’s loved one and eliminate those comments that I referred to above. I am Brandon W.
